The Personal Academic Tutoring (PAT) Program

Personal Academic Tutoring ( PAT ) Program

The Personal Academic Tutoring (PAT) Program is a structured, university-wide support system designed to enhance students’ academic success, personal development, and overall university experience through consistent and individualized guidance.

Each student is assigned a dedicated Personal Academic Tutor (PAT) who serves as a consistent point of contact throughout their academic journey. Tutors meet with students twice per trimester to monitor academic progress, discuss challenges, and provide tailored guidance on study skills, course engagement, and academic planning.

PATs play a central role in supporting students by addressing academic and personal concerns, answering questions, and facilitating access to relevant university services and support facilities when needed. Through close collaboration with the university Wellness Unit, additional support and accommodation are provided to ensure that students’ wellbeing needs are appropriately met.

The program is coordinated at the school level, where each school has a designated PAT Coordinator responsible for tutor allocations, oversight, and ongoing follow-up to ensure quality and consistency of support delivery. At the institutional level, the Program Head serves as the final point of contact, ensuring alignment, accountability, and continuous improvement across all schools.

By combining structured academic monitoring, personalized mentorship, and an integrated support network, the PAT Program reflects the university’s commitment to student success, retention, and holistic development within a supportive academic environment.
